Pre-Abortion Screening

What should I consider before an abortion?

Before any medical procedure, a screening to assess your personal needs and risks is a necessary first step. In the state of Texas, all methods of abortion are banned, including telemedicine, the abortion pill, and surgical abortions. At Real Options, we provide a pre-abortion screening, which is important before you decide to travel for an abortion or take the abortion pill.

The screening includes:
1. Medically-accurate information on abortion procedures
2. Confirmation of pregnancy
3. Sonogram to determine gestational age, location of pregnancy, and risk of miscarriage
4. Hemoglobin testing to screen for risk of anemia (especially if you are considering the abortion pill)
5. STI screening for infections that can cause additional medical complications if an abortion is performed before treatment

*Please note these screenings are done prior to an abortion decision, and Real Options does not refer for or perform these procedures as required by Texas law.
*A full list of screening questions can be provided upon request at your appointment.
